Stereotype

• Definition : a fixed idea that many people have of a particular type of person or society but which is often not true in reality.

• When I first arrived in France in July 2009, I always thought that the Frenchmen are arrogant and it would be hard for me to communicate with them. Indeed, I was proved wrong as they were quite friendly and willing to lend me a hand when I do need it.

• My French lecturer told me that French people are often being called lazy. They work for 7 hours a day and about 35 hours a week. In comparison with Malaysia, I could say that the Malaysians work even harder than the French are. The Malaysian work for 8 to 10 hours a day. In France, the government has set out a rule that the people should work no more than 7 hours a day. It would perhaps give people more quality time with their family.
